High winds knock out power to residents

Thousands of people were without power Sunday afternoon because of high winds in the area. In Carbon County, 1,343 PPL customers were without power.

As of press time, 186 were still without power in the county.

More than 5,000 customers were without power in Lehigh County, including 1,731 in Washington Township.

More than 2,000 were without power in Schuylkill County Sunday afternoon. This morning, the number was down to just under 400, with 42 out in Ryan Township and 52 in West Penn Township.

In Monroe County, 2,557 were without power. As of press time, the number decreased to 500, with 37 in Chestnuthill Township, 46 in Eldred Township and seven in Polk Township. A handful of First Energy customers in Ross Township were still without power this morning.

At the height of the outages, 1,700 in Lehigh Township, Northampton County, were without power. All but nine were restored by Monday morning.

Icy roads were reported throughout the area Saturday night as black ice formed.
