Fire destroys 2-story home in Lausanne Township

Fire destroyed a two-story home in Lausanne Township early Monday morning, sending two people to the hospital.

The call at 3907 Buck Mountain Road came in at 3:30 a.m. and the home was fully involved when firefighters arrived, Lehigh & Lausanne Fire Chief Tim Rossman said.

Two people were taken to a hospital with injuries and one of them was admitted for observation and evaluation, Rossman said. Three dogs were in the home, but it is unknown if they survived, he said.

Firefighters from L&L, Citizens Fire Co. of Weatherly, Beaver Meadows and Freeland responded, as well as tankers from surrounding communities in both Carbon and Luzerne counties.

Firefighters were on the scene for several hours, and a state police fire marshal was on scene. Rossman said the cause may have been the chimney.
