State Police at Fern Ridge - crashes

State police at the Fern Ridge barracks reported on the following crashes:

• No one was injured in a two-vehicle crash at 6:54 a.m. Jan. 4 on Route 209 in Chestnuthill Township.

The incident involved a 2016 Nissan Altima driven by Paul G. Boris, 63, of Kunkletown, and a 2019 Jeep Compass operated by Richard D. Vanmil, 69, of Brodheadsville.

* Police said the driver of a 2016 Nissan Titan was transported to the Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Wilkes-Barre, after suffering a seizure in the vehicle.

Police said the vehicle was westbound on the 277 on-ramp of Interstate 80 westbound in Kidder Township when the driver sustained a medical emergency that was determined to be a seizure. They said the vehicle left the roadway and came to an uncontrolled rest in a snowbank.

Police said a passer-by observed the vehicle on the embankment and called police. Upon arrival, police said they administered two doses of Narcan to the operator, whose pupils were constricted. They said the operator was snoring.

After the operator was taken to the hospital, the Titan was towed from the scene.

* Clair C. Horst, 20, of Manheim, sustained suspected serious injuries in a one-vehicle crash at 7:03 p.m. Jan. 5 on Interstate 80 eastbound in Tunkhannock Township.

Police said he was transported by personnel from the Pocono Mountain Regional Emergency Medical Services to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township.

Police said he was driving a 2003 Peterbilt that exited the highway and struck a tree before rolling onto its driver’s side. Police said Horst was trapped inside the cab.

The vehicle was towed from the scene,

Police said Horst was cited for driving on roadways laned for traffic.

* Yeimy A. Alcantarasantos, 34, of the Bronx, New York, was injured in a two-vehicle crash at 7:12 a.m. Dec. 12 on Interstate 80 westbound in Tunkhannock Township.

Police said she was transported by personnel from the Pocono Mountain Regional Medical Services to the Lehigh Valley Hospital-Pocono, East Stroudsburg, to be treated for minor injuries.

Police said she was driving a 2011 Kia Sorento that was illegally parked in the left lane of the interstate when a 2011 Volvo driven by Julia W. Misiejuk, 25, of Tobyhanna, struck it in the rear. The Volvo then hit a guiderail on the south shoulder of the road before coming to an uncontrolled stop.

Police were assisted at the scene by a towing service.

They said Alcantarasantos was cited for the incident. Three passengers were in her car.

No one else was injured.

• Barbara J. Williams, 76, of Jim Thorpe, was injured in a one-vehicle crash at 4:02 p.m. Jan. 5 on Route 903 in Penn Forest Township.

Police said she was transported by personnel from the Lehighton Ambulance Association to a local hospital for medical treatment as a precaution.

Police said she was driving a 2005 Buick Century westbound when it left the roadway and struck a tree.

The car was towed from the scene.

* Daniel L. Haskins, 18, of Palmerton, was cited after a crash at 4:27 p.m. Dec. 28 on Route 534 in Penn Forest Township.

Police said he was driving a 1987 Chevrolet when he lost control of the vehicle. It struck a utility pole, causing live wires to fall onto the roadway, police said.

They said a 2013 Honda Accord operated by Jacob Vargas, 36, of Albrightsville was struck by the falling wires, causing damage to its passenger side. It was able to be driven from the scene.

Police said the Chevrolet remained on scene until power was turned off and was later towed from the scene.

Haskins and Vargas were uninjured, police said.
