The Panther Valley School Board on Thursday agreed to seek bids to sell and/or demolish the former middle school in Lansford, which it vacated in the summer of 2007 to move into the $17.2-million school next to the high school on Route 209 between Lansford and Nesquehoning.

The latest move comes after the Lansford Borough Council, which previously had threatened legal action against the district to obtain ownership of the building, now is not sure it wants the property at 11 E. Bertsch St. An agreement drafted in 1963 when the district was formed states the school should revert back to the borough if Panther Valley no longer wanted it.

In recent months, a plan to sell the building to a developer for the Rite Aid drugstore chain fell through.
