State police at Hazleton
State police at the Hazleton barracks reported the following:
• A 69-year-old Hazleton man is the victim of a vehicle parts theft that police responded to at 9:09 a.m. Dec. 22 on East Broad Street in Hazleton.
Police said someone stole a catalytic converter out of the man’s 2022 Ford mobile home.
• Edward J. Mariano, 51, of Hazleton, was cited for careless driving after a one-vehicle crash at 6:19 a.m. Dec. 22 at the intersection of the Tresckow Road and Banks Avenue in Tresckow. He was uninjured.
Police said he was driving a 2019 Toyota southbound on the Tresckow Road when he fell asleep. The car left the road, traveled through a guide rail and struck support cables to a utility pole.
The car sustained disabling damages and was towed from the scene.
• Police charged a 35-year-old Beaver Meadows man with simple assault and harassment after they were called to a domestic dispute at 9:37 p.m. Dec. 20 at a property on Berwick Street in Beaver Meadows.
The victim is the man’s 39-year-old wife, who told police they were involved in an argument that escalated when he threw a cellphone at her, striking her in the face. Police said she denied medical treatment and a hospital transport.
They said both parties were highly-intoxicated at the time of the altercation. The man was taken into custody and transported to the state police barracks where the was processes.
• A 45-year-old Hazleton woman is the victim of a criminal mischief incident that happened between 4 p.m. Dec. 19 and 1 p.m. Dec. 20 on Tamaqua Street in Tresckow.
Police said someone smashed the right rear window of the woman’s 2021 GMC Acadia. The estimated damages are $200.
• Two people were injured in a crash at 6:12 p.m. Dec. 24 at the intersection of South Appian Way and Pecora Boulevard in Hazle Township.
Injured were a 10-year-old girl from Mahanoy City and Theresa M. Marchetti, 84, of Freeland. They were passengers in the two vehicles that were involved in the mishap. Police said both refused medical transports.
Police said Katie M. Peel, 36, of Mahanoy City, was driving a 2017 Jeep Compass west on Pecora Boulevard, entered the intersection to continue north on North Appian Way and struck a 2015 Subaru Legacy driven by Richard J. Marchetti, 56, also of Freeland. Both vehicles were towed from the scene, police said.
Neither driver was injured.
Police said Peel was cited for a stop sign violation.
