Power restored to PPL customers, others should have back by today

Power had been restored to many PPL customers after storms caused widespread damage and power outages across its service territory Tuesday into Wednesday.

As of 3:30 Wednesday afternoon, about 8,750 of PPL’s 1.5 million customers were still without power.

As of 7:46 a.m., 39 customers in Schuylkill County were still without power; 17 in Lehigh County, 13 in Northampton County, 11 in Carbon County, and zero in Monroe County.

Since Tuesday afternoon, 65,000 customers have been restored from the original 73,900 customers without power.

“Our crews began working Tuesday morning and are continuing to safely restore power to customers to who experiencing outages,” said Jane George, Regional Affairs Director, PPL Electric Utilities. “We have brought in additional crews to supplement our efforts today (Wednesday).”

Because of the scope of repairs, full restoration could take until today for some customers, although many customers will get power restored sooner, as crews work around the clock to repair damage, George said.

• Remember that candles can start fires. If you lose power, use flashlights instead.?

• If you encounter a downed wire at any time, assume it’s energized and stay away.?

• If you lose power and are using a portable generator, never operate the generator in an enclosed area, like a garage, where deadly carbon monoxide fumes could accumulate.

• For your safety and theirs, keep a safe distance from PPL crews.?
