Lehighton bakery moving to New York
An award-winning bakery in Lehighton will shutter its doors by the end of next month and move to New York.
Blended Bakery, at 158 South First St., plans to close Feb. 29, according to a post on its Facebook page.
The business has operated from out of the borough for eight years, said owner Christina Yurasits, who explained in her post the reason for the decision.
“A few years ago my husband Troy’s company announced they would be closing their Bethlehem doors in 2023 (after he worked there for 29 years),” Yurasits wrote. “While Troy was given the opportunity to relocate to North Carolina, that was just not the best fit for our family.
“While searching for his new job home he came across an incredible company in New York (in the Hudson Valley) and was given an amazing opportunity to join their team. (On) Dec. 22 after many tears and family discussions Troy accepted this new job.”
As a result, Yurasits said Blended Bakery will also be moving to New York.
“We are working, thinking, and planning so many wonderful ideas and things to relocate and possibly go mobile,” she said. “This means I can return for events or pop up days.”
Yurasits said that she has accepted cake, custom cookie and wedding orders into summer and early fall “and I intend on doing all of them. So please do not stress. I will be in contact with you in the next few weeks.”
“My goal was to remain open until Easter however our building has been listed on the market and already had a potential buyer which means we will be closing our storefront at the end of February (the 29th to be exact),” she said. “I would love to extend this but that is contingent on the building sale and its new owner.”
Blended Bakery was not just a bakery, Yurasits added. “This has become my home, my family and my heart.
“I have built so many incredible friendships and extended family through this business and wouldn’t change a thing. I will miss each and every single person and our incredible conversations.
“I will miss our beautiful storefront windows and the excitement of planning our next theme with Julie. I have an incredible staff and love them dearly and hope they find a new home just like Blended.”
Yurasits thanked everyone “for your unwavering support and helping make my little dream the BIGGEST REALITY.”
