A man who lived in the area of “Tent City” in Lehighton has died.

On Wednesday evening, the Carbon County Coroner’s Office was requested to respond to the area of “Tent City” along the Lehigh River, Lehighton for a deceased person.

Michael Keiper, 45, was pronounced dead at 8:33 p.m. by Chief Deputy Coroner Jason Smith, according to a release from Carbon County Coroner Mark K. Smith.

Toxicology tests performed in cooperation with the Lehigh County Coroners Office and Forensics Center revealed the cause of death to be mixed drug toxicity, with the manner of death to be accidental.

Assisting at the scene were the Lehighton Police Department, Lehighton Fire Department and Lehighton EMS.
