Heffley helps students learn about making laws

An S.S. Palmer Elementary class discussion led to a visit last week from state Rep. Doyle Heffley.

Principal Ralph Andrews said students in Kaitlyn Bartholomew’s third grade social studies class were learning about how a bill becomes law when they reached out to Heffley’s office for help.

On Friday, he visited the Palmerton Area School District to explain in person.

“We are very thankful for the time he made for our students,” Andrews said. “He even took suggestions for new laws from our students, which ranged from no homework to free cookies on Thursdays.”

Heffley also spoke to other third and fourth grade students about his political experiences and his role in serving the community.

“Our fourth grade students are looking forward to their annual field trip to the capitol in Harrisburg to learn more about our state government,” Andrews said.
