A 14-year-old from Coaldale was charged by borough police Tuesday for making threats to “shoot up” a local school.
According to police, the department was told at 3:30 a.m. Tuesday to contact the Pennsylvania State Police Watch Center for information on threats forwarded by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Police said the threat was made on an online video game chat. The suspect wrote, “I’m going to shoot up my school,” police said.
Law enforcement agencies tracked the IP address, which came back to a Coaldale address. Officers contacted the homeowner.
Police said the 14-year-old confessed to the incident.
As a result of the investigation, the juvenile was arrested and charged with terroristic threats-serious public inconvenience.
“Currently, there is no threat to the public or any school districts in the area,” police said Wednesday.
