Speed limits restored on area highways

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has lifted all speed limit restrictions that were in place on interstates across the east central PennDOT District 5 region that includes Berks, Carbon, Lehigh, Monroe, Northampton, and Schuylkill counties during the latest winter storm.

Due to the winter storm impacting the region, speed limits were reduced earlier today to 45 mph Interstate 80 and 380 in east central PA. All vehicle restrictions have been lifted and speeds restored to their usual posted limits.

PennDOT is continuing to treat roadways in the area and will continue until roads are clear.

Motorists can check conditions on more than 40,000 roadway miles, including color-coded winter conditions on 2,900 miles, by visiting 511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information and access to more than 1,000 traffic cameras.

511PA is also available through a smartphone application for iPhone and Android devices, by calling 5-1-1, or by following regional X alerts.
