Woman charged in stabbing incident
A Lansford woman and her boyfriend face charges following a dispute in which he attempted to strangle her and she slashed him with a knife early Thursday.
Cynthia Rickard, 36, of West Bertsch Street, was arraigned by on charges of aggravated assault, harassment and terroristic threats following the early morning incident in her home.
District Judge Beth Dodson set bail at $20,000, which Rickard was unable to post and she was remanded to the Carbon County Correctional Facility in Nesquehoning.
Rickard’s boyfriend, William J. Winslow Jr., 53, of Far Rockaway, New York, faces charges of strangulation, simple assault and harassment. He has not yet been arraigned.
According to court papers, the couple had spent the previous day together, getting along, as he awaited a call for potential work. He didn’t get work, but went out to buy cigarettes, liquor and beer.
Then, Winslow started to “play” with her and she asked him to leave, court papers said. Rickard then walked away from him.
When she returned, Winslow grabbed her by the shoulders and took her to the ground, choking her until she couldn’t breathe, court papers said.
She started kicking him until she was able to stand up, and asked him why he was choking her and grabbed the kitchen knife, court papers said.
Winslow told her that she wasn’t going to do it, and Rickard swung the knife in Winslow’s direction, striking him in the face, court papers said.
Winslow suffered a cut to lip, which was bleeding badly and Rickard got a towel to put pressure on the wound, and called 911, court papers said.
Troopers took Rickard for questioning, and interviewed Winslow at St. Luke’s Hospital-Miners Campus in Coaldale, where he had been taken for treatment following the 1:40 a.m. incident.
Winslow was bleeding heavily from a bandaged wound to his lower lip and also had a bandage on his right hand with a cut, in addition to a cut, a bite mark on his chest, and cut behind his ear, court papers said.
Winslow told troopers he and Rickard argued and she caused his injuries. He had trouble speaking due to his medical condition, and he also said that they had being drinking before the argument, court papers said.
