A pair of local municipalities located within several miles of each other each hired new borough managers in 2023.
In February, Palmerton Borough Council appointed Autumn Canfield as borough manager/secretary/treasurer.
Canfield was hired at a salary of $94,000.
She replaced former borough Manager Donna McGarry, who retired after being employed by the borough for 35 years. Her salary was $86,000.
Canfield had most recently served as the assistant manager of Tobyhanna Township, a position she had held for the past five years.
Before that, she was the special projects coordinator for Doylestown Township.
Just a few miles away, Lehighton Borough Council in August appointed Dane DeWire as is new borough manager on a one-year contract at a salary of $95,000.
A 2011 graduate of Tamaqua Area High School, DeWire was most recently employed as a residential structural engineer with KSE Engineering of Quakertown.
DeWire replaced former borough Manager Steve Travers, who was hired by council in August 2022 on a one-year contract at a salary of $105,000.
Travers was fired by borough council after an executive session in June.
The borough gave no reason for his firing.
