Nesquehoning is taking a step back on implementing a new short-term rental ordinance because more work is needed on outlining terms in the application.
During the borough council meeting on Wednesday, Councilwoman Abbie Guardiani asked the board to extend the moratorium on the short-term rental ordinance until July 1.
Guardiani said that the borough is looking at the applications for both long-term and short-term rentals and the quality of life committee met with incoming members of the board to discuss the matter.
“There is a ton of work that needs to be done,” Guardiani said of the applications.
She said that the borough hopes to create one document to meet the needs of both types of rentals, but as it stands now, there is too much to be done to implement the ordinance properly.
“There is no sense having this ordinance on the books when you cannot enforce it,” she said.
This is the second time council has put the brakes on enforcing the ordinance that it passed in February.
In June, council also voted to put a six-month moratorium on the ordinance because at that time the borough did not have anyone to review the applications that would come in.
The new ordinance asks people who wish to do short-term rentals to complete an application and get approval from the borough, but with the changes to the borough staff, there were things that needed to be addressed before this could happen.
