Coaldale police charged a 76-year-old borough man with attempting to lure a child into his vehicle.
The charge against Peter Sachon of the unit block of West Lehigh Street is a second degree felony.
According to police, officers were dispatched to the area of First and Phillips streets at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday for a report of a man who was possibly attempting to lure an 8-year-old boy into his vehicle.
Officers quickly gathered all the information that was provided by the boy and a witness. Police said the officer made an “attempt to locate” the description of the suspect vehicle to surrounding police departments.
Coaldale police located a vehicle matching the description in the borough later Wednesday. Police contacted Sachon, the owner of the vehicle, early Thursday morning.
He was taken into custody and arraigned before Tamaqua Magisterial District Judge Stephen Bayer. He is free on $50,000 unsecured bail.
