Walnutport residents will have to dole out a little extra for their municipal taxes next year.
On a 5-1 vote, borough council last week adopted the 2024 budget with a 1-mill increase.
Councilwoman Patrice Hunsicker was opposed.
That will raise the millage rate from 19.25 to 20.25 mills.
After the meeting, Councilwoman Jennifer Wentz said the average homeowner who lives in the borough will pay an extra $44 in municipal taxes in 2024.
Before the vote, Wentz explained that the borough was still feeling the sting from COVID.
“We’re still struggling with the cost of a lot of things,” Wentz said. “It’s been five years since we had a tax increase; it’s a small one.”
After the vote, Wentz praised all those who played a role in piecing the budget together.
“Thank you to all those who worked on the budget, and (worked) to keep things manageable,” she said.
Council President Michael Gaston was absent.
Last month, council agreed to advertise next year’s preliminary budget with a 1-mill increase
At that time, Wentz cited increases in the cost of living, as well as the cost of materials, as the basis.
Borough residents did not see an increase in their municipal tax rates this year.
