Fundraiser started for Polk fire victims

A GoFundMe has been set up for a Polk Township family who lost everything in a fire on Wednesday.

The fire broke out at 10:30 a.m. at a home at 110 Midway Pines Lane in Kresgeville.

Maggie Carpentier of Eldred Township organized a GoFundMe fundraiser on behalf of the Parisi family.

“The Parisi family experienced a devastating loss,” Carpentier said. “Their home burned down, displacing a widowed mother and two young girls ages 16 and 20 years old.

“This incident has left nothing behind and their home is uninhabitable. Unfortunately, they lost their dog and cat in this fire as well.

“No family should face this kind of hardship, especially during the holiday season. With your help, we can show them that they’re not alone in this.

“Please consider donating or just sharing this. Every act of kindness, big or small, will bring them one step closer to rebuilding their lives.”

Donations may be made in a GoFundMe account titled Help the Parisi Family.

Polk Township Fire Chief Billy Tippett said firefighters encountered a fully involved residential structure fire with exposed houses on either side “relatively close enough that they were close to catching on fire.”

“We got water on the fire and kept it to the home,” Tippett said. “It did not extend to any neighboring houses.”

Tippett said that the Red Cross was contacted to aid the residents of the home.

He said that a state police fire marshal was called per Polk Township Fire Company policy.

The incident remains under investigation, Tippett said.

Tippett said it took firefighters about 45 minutes to get the fire under control, and it took about another 90 minutes to get all the hot spots.

He said firefighters were on scene for about 2 1/2 hours.

Tippett said also assisting at the scene were the West End Fire Company, Blue Ridge Hook & Ladder Fire Company, Towamensing Township Fire Company, and LVHN EMS Ambulance Service.

“All the companies involved worked very well together to minimize as best we could the house that was on fire, and also the exposed houses,” he said.
