Former state Sen. William Z. Scott, a Republican and a lifelong resident of Lansford until moving to Pocono Manor last summer, was appointed to the PA Liquor Control Board on Wednesday by Governor William Scranton. Since the legislature is out of session, Scott will served on the board until at least the end of the year, and longer, of course, if confirmed by the Senate when it reconvenes in Harrisburg in January.

He will succeed Democrat Dean R. Fisher of Williamsport.

A 50-year-old attorney, Scott served in the State House from 1947-54 and in the Senate from 1955-66. He was the Senate GOP Caucus chairman from 1963-65 before choosing not to run for re-election.
