Mahoning Township has filled an empty post on its board of supervisors.
On a 3-1 vote, township supervisors on Wednesday appointed Ronald Wenrich to the open seat.
Supervisors Ronald Reeser, Myron Blahy and board Chairman Robert Slaw were in favor. Supervisor Deb McGowan was opposed.
That came after the board deadlocked on a 2-2 vote to appoint Stephen Chukra to the seat, with Slaw and McGowan in favor, and Reeser and Blahy against.
Originally, a motion was made to extend the deadline until Dec. 27, but that failed because of the lack of a second.
Wenrich’s appointment is contingent upon him resigning from the zoning hearing board.
Slaw noted the township is accepting letters of interest to serve on the zoning hearing board.
Other candidates who applied were Bruce Steigerwalt and Gaige Accardi.
The seat became open following the passing last week of Supervisor David Pollock.
Pollock, 67, was appointed in July to an empty seat on the board, returning to the board in which he previously served for 3½ years.
In June, the board accepted the resignation of Supervisor Brian Reeser.
Reeser resigned because he was moving out of the township. He had served on the board since 2020.
Pollock was a lifetime member of Mahoning Valley Fire Company No. 1. He served as chief from 1983-1987, and again from 1996-2008.
The board held a moment of silence for Pollock at the start of Wednesday’s meeting.
