Coaldale council locates missing bleachers

A set of bleachers that Coaldale Borough Council members thought were missing from the Coaldale Complex have been located.

The aluminum set was moved to a baseball field in Lansford, council reported during its recent meeting.

“We’re going to send them a letter and ask that they be returned,” Council President Claire Remington said.

The set was one of two purchased to replace wooden bleachers at the complex.

Several council members recalled approving the purchase, but none remembered giving permission to remove or relocate them.

“The investigation is still ongoing,” borough Solicitor Robert Yurchak said.

Council also noted that they intend to find out where four tires and rims purchased for a police department vehicle are.

Members said they haven’t been able to search documents over the past few weeks because police have been reorganizing files and an evidence locker.

“We just had a discussion about it. I’ll be going up there the week after Christmas,” Remington said, “and we’re going to see if we can find documents for that.”

Councilman Jacob Adamitis has proof that the tires were purchased and delivered to the borough about two years ago, Remington said.

The tires and rims are valued at approximately $2,500.

“We have a good idea where they are, we just need proof,” Remington said.

In another accountability issue, council still hasn’t received documents and equipment requested from the C.H.O.S.E. organization a few months ago.

Council sent a letter, asking for financial and activity reports, along with cameras that the borough purchased for the C.H.O.S.E. headquarters.

“Some people feel that they don’t have to show us some things,” Remington said.

In the past, she said, council received frequent updates from the organization.

The group, which conducts fundraisers, didn’t host any Halloween or Christmas events in 2023, she said.

Council also asked for a rental schedule and records from the Coaldale Complex, but still hasn’t received a response.
