The Slatington Borough Council made a motion to amend an ordinance for additional zoning provisions regarding the use of tobacco, smoke, and vape shops in the borough.
During the public session, members of Brownie Troop 6365 of Slatington addressed council, encouraging members to adopt the ordinance.
“These businesses shoo away family-friendly stores and promote unhealthy habits,” troop leader Naomi Winch read from a prepared statement. “Thank you for taking this ordinance very seriously and ending the era of smoke and vape shops here in Slatington Borough.”
The ordinance would limit smoke and vape shops to only be permitted in industrial zones, with a minimum spacing of 1,500 feet from a school, church, library, pubic park, medical or health care building, child care facility, or a residential district. The ordinance would also impose a minimum of 1,500 feet away from any other smoke or vape shops.
Council voted unanimously to adopt the ordinance.
