Pallets of lime dumped in I-80 crash

Both lanes of interstate 80 in Monroe County had to be shut down on Friday after a tractor trailer crashed and dumped pallets of lime onto the roadway.

State police at the Stroudsburg barracks said the incident happened at 2:30 a.m. near mile marker 305.5.

They said the rig was eastbound when it traveled into the center of the roadway and struck the median before overturning. The driver was uninjured, police said.

They said the rig was loaded with pallets of calcium hydroxide (lime), which spilled into the westbound lanes of I-80.

Police said while both lanes of the interstate were closed, the eastbound lane eventually opened but the westbound lane remained closed for a longer period of time while state Department of Environmental Protection and emergency personnel had the lime cleaned up.
