Tamaqua business turns into Christmasland
Honest Abe’s Business and Tax Services in Hometown has transformed into a Winter Wonderland to raise funds and collect toys for Toys for Tots.
Folks are invited to visit the holiday spectacle, which will be held - Saturday and Dec. 9 from 5-9 p.m.; and Sunday and Dec. 10 from 1-5 p.m.
Honest Abe’s owner, Alice Horton, said she and her staff have been decorating every room at the 258 Claremont Ave. business since Nov. 10.
“The entire office is decked out. Every time we thought we were done decorating, there was something else to do,” she said.
The site has rooms in holiday themes.
“We have a Grinch room, a Scrooge room, an old-fashioned Christmas room, a huge winter wonderland, an old-fashioned kitchen and dining room,” Horton explained.
The Scrooge room features an antique-style desk and fireplace. The Grinch is in “his” room, and the Santa room has one of the many Christmas trees, and chairs for the Jolly Ole Elf and his guests to sit. Santa will be on hand every day of the event except Sunday. On Sunday, he’ll send one of his elves to meet children.
“Our commercial office is no longer a commercial office. It has the spell of Christmas cast over it,” Horton said.
Toys for Tots is a U.S. Marine Corps Reserve program that distributes toys to less fortunate children. Marines are also expected to be on hand.
Visitors can also participate in a tricky tray auction, and purchase crafts, homemade candy, cookies and holiday beverages.
Donations are taken for admission.
