Carbon County Friends Of Animals

Carbon County Friends of Animals is regularly seeking the following items for the cat shelter:

Cleaning items: Fabuloso, Lysol cleaner, spray and wipes, hand sanitizer, bleach, dish soap, hand soap, top performing disinfectant.

Paper and bedding items: paper towels, toilet paper, pillowcases, towels and small blankets.

Cat items: Purina Cat & Kitten Chow, nail clippers, wet food (Friskies preferred) Cat litter (scoopable and non-scoopable), cat towers, toys, wands, etc.

Maintenance items: mop, dust pans (stand up ones), brooms, black and white trash bags.

Stationary items: index cards (any color), printing paper, pens, highlighters.

Medical items: gloves (powder free/non-latex) any sizes, thermometer, heating pad, cotton swabs.

Also: fundraising ideas, monetary donations, volunteers.

Please drop off all donations at the shelter facility between 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. If items need to be picked up, please contact the shelter for assistance at 570-325-9400.

Dietrich-Luhman

American Legion Post 360, Weatherly

The Dietrich-Luhman American Legion Post 360 and Ladies Auxiliary are in need of a new upright freezer. The present freezers are aging.

The Ladies Auxiliary runs the food share ad turkey dinners for veterans. The pizza sales benefit veterans and many other fundraisers to support the community. The goal is to replace three of the freezers and a refrigerator freezer with one large freezer. This would help with the electrical bill and storing capacity.

Citizens Fire Company #1 of Weatherly is looking for assistance in replacing a 40-plus-year-old emergency generator. The present generator is not functioning properly and is requiring constant maintenance. A generator is needed to ensure power is kept on for the emergency vehicles (fire apparatus), also if the fire station is needed for use as an emergency shelter. The fire company is in need of a larger generator that is able to handle the entire building.

The shelter is seeking the following donations: gift cards for groceries, paper products, personal hygiene products, cleaning products, and gas gift cards.

Kids for the Community Coat Drive

Kids for the Community in Palmerton is hosting its fourth annual coat drive through the winter season.

The organization also has multiple in-person swap days scheduled.

They are looking for gently used, weather proof, winter coats and winter necessities.

MapleShade Meadows

MapleShade Meadows is seeking Christmas cards for its 75 residents.

Along with cards, the center is always grateful to receive any donations, such as socks, personal hygiene products, slippers, briefs, pajamas, puzzles, word search books, etc.

Meals on Wheels

Help Monroe County Meals on Wheels provide gifts to our homebound clients this holiday season.

The organization is accepting donations of new unwrapped items.

Needed items are battery operated toothbrushes, flashlight/night light, slippers socks with grippers, suncatchers, cups with lids, magnifiers, lotion/body wash, robes (one size fits all), neck pillows, adult coloring books with markers, hats/gloves/scarves for men, puzzles (large size pieces), and gift cards for Dollar General, Dollar Tree, etc).

Item can be dropped off at our office, 901 Polk Valley Road, Stroudsburg, 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Contact Stacy Koeck at 570–242–1670.

Socks for Seniors

The Socks for Seniors Project is in full swing once again for our twelfth year. Mary Ann Dulaney and daughter, Jessica Kutza, coordinators for the project, with the assistance of area businesses and locations are collecting donations of warm socks and other items to distribute to local nursing home and rehab center residents for the holiday season.

In addition to donations of non-skid and regular socks, soft tissues, personal care items (shampoo, lotion, chap stick, deodorant, brushes, combs, aftershave, shower caps, small hand sanitizers), individually wrapped snacks or sugar free candy, costume jewelry, garden gloves (for wheelchair use), backscratchers, puzzle books and anything to bring cheer are appreciated.

New, unwrapped items can be dropped off at the following locations: Tommy’s Restaurant, Coaldale; Cynthia’s Cynful Styles, Lansford; Hiles Brothers, Summit Hill; Mauch Chunk 5 & 10, Jim Thorpe; Beacon 443 Lehighton; Dr. Puddu’s office, M & S Hardware, Tamaqua.

The deadline is Dec. 10. Anyone with questions or any nursing center in need of gifts can contact Dulaney at 570-645-4228 or madula@ptd.net.

Coat drive

An ongoing coat/winter clothes drive will benefit Panther Valley School District children in grades kindergarten through third.

Donations can be new or gently used clean items. Donations are being accepted through Dec. 14 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at the following locations:

• Iron Valley Real Estate Northeast, 3295 Forest Inn Road, Palmerton. After hours drop tote is outside the door.

• Priority One Real Estate Team, 148 W. White Bear Drive, Summit Hill.

Accepting children’s sizes XS-LG: coats, hats, socks, scarves, gloves.

Needs include: gravy; pancake mix, French fried onions, pancake syrup, body wash, toothbrushes, razors and shaving cream, men’s sneakers, sheets, towels, blankets; winter coats, hats and gloves.

Salvation Army

People are needed to take tags from Angel Trees at Walmart stores in Lehighton and Hometown contain a child’s name, age, and their requests for clothing or toys.

Those who are unable to visit the stores can participate by contacting the Salvation Army at 570-668-0410 or The Salvation Army Tamaqua Service Center page on Facebook.

Businesses or organizations wishing to donate a larger quantity of toys and clothing suitable for those ages 0 to 12 may call 570-668-0410.

Checks may also be made to the Salvation Army and sent to the service center at 246 E. Broad St., Tamaqua, PA, 18252.

Toy donations

The Lutheran Church of St. John in the Heights in Jim Thorpe, along with Mason’s Cold Beer stores in Jim Thorpe and Lehighton and with a Thrivent Action Team, have launched a toy collection to benefit the Head Start programs in the area.

Toys will be collected until Dec. 10 and then taken to the regional Head Start office for distribution before Christmas. Toys can be dropped off at Mason’s Cold Beer locations during business hours or at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 319 South Ave. in Jim Thorpe from 1 to 3 p.m. Dec. 2 and from 1 to 3 p.m. Dec. 3. If unable to drop off toy donations during those hours, contact John at 570-413-4474 to make arrangements.
