Monroe Co. properties increase by $100M

The value of assessed real estate in Monroe County increased by $100 million in 2023.

At the Monroe County Commissioner’s meeting on Nov. 15, Commissioner John Moyer asked Cindy Treible, the county’s chief assessor, if she has certified the numbers for next year, and whether or not the numbers are higher or lower than last year.

Treible said they were higher by about $100 million. The overall total value of real estate in Monroe County is $14.7 billion.

“It gets broken down to each municipality and each school district,” Moyer said. ”That’s what they use to set their millage rates. That’s why the certification is important.”

According to the 2024 County Assessed Valuation of Taxable Real Property the Pleasant Valley area has a total assessed value of $2.3 billion. Broken down, Chestnuthill Township is $1.1 billion, Polk Township is $559 million, Ross Township is $381 million, and Eldred Township is $215 million.

The other value of the other areas in the county are East Stroudsburg area at $2.5 billion, Pocono Mountain at $7 billion, and Stroudsburg area at $2.7 billion.

Greg Christine, the chief clerk for the county, said in an interview that the large increase in real estate value is mainly due to new development. He didn’t have any numbers on how much development is commercial and residential.
