Nick’s rolls out red carpet for small businesses

Nick’s Lake House held a fun afternoon of Christmas shopping for small business Saturday with 16 vendors displaying their goods in the backroom of the restaurant overlooking the lake.

Each vendor donated a product for the basket raffle to benefit the St. Peter The Fisherman food pantry in Lake Harmony. Cindy Pantages, owner of Nick’s and a member of the church, has been holding the event for 12 years. Baskets were also donated by Nick’s, Louie’s Prime, Shenanigans and long-time customer Mary Miller.

Ginny Terri from Blakeslee said she comes every year “to support everybody local.”

Mother and daughter Erica and Bella Testa have been selling their chocolate bombs at Nicks for 3 years. Flavors include dark chocolate, peppermint and white chocolate. Testa said they generally sell out of their treats.

It was a full house with both diners and shoppers. John Powers, Nick’s host, said that the event “brings the Christmas spirit and we also have holiday gifts in the restaurant store.”

“Kasbeadz” offered gemstone jewelry made by Kass Durante and Karen Sechler from Emmaus. “This is our third year,” Durante said. “We love coming up here, love the people, the setting, meeting all kinds of people and looking at the lake from our stand.”

It was hard to pass on the beautifully decorated cupcakes. Tracey Gessell, a former bartender at Nick’s from Effort, annually makes them for the event. Flavors included hot chocolate (decorated with mini marshmallows), caramel chocolate, red velvet and guava. Kim Wilson made the annual trip from Ephrata just to buy the cupcakes.

Also for sale were wind chimes made out of recycled steel cylinders. Stacey Beckman of Lake Harmony cuts and decorates the cylinders. She said they are a good gift as they have a “nice ring to them.”

Other vendors included “Soap by the Sea,” which has been making handcrafted soap since 2015, Captain Joe’s Fishing and Tiffany’s Custom Cookies.

Blue Mountain Candles and Poinsettia sales proceeds went to benefit the Jim Thorpe girls basketball team.
