No students hurt in Nov. 7 bus crash

Neither the driver nor 18 students she was transporting on a school bus were injured in a crash that involved two other vehicles at 7:29 a.m. Nov. 7 on Route 309 in Heidelberg Township.

State police at Bethlehem said one of the other drivers, Keith G. Wonderly, 69, of Coplay, had suspected minor injuries and was transported by the Northern Valley ambulance corps to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township. Police said he was cited for “vehicle turning left” after the crash.

It took place where Route 309 intersects with Kistler Road as Wonderly, driving a 2022 Chevrolet Colorado, was northbound on Route 309. Police said he was attempting to turn left onto Kistler Road and failed to yield the right-of-way to a northbound 1994 Chevrolet GMT operated by Gunter P. Senftleben, 57, of Allentown. The bus, meanwhile, was driven by Tracy A. Humes, 51, of New Tripoli, and was stopped at a stop sign at the intersection, waiting for traffic to clear to travel north on Route 309.

Police said the GMT struck the Colorado, which spun around and struck the bus, a 2020 Blue Bird International.

Police said both the GMT and Colorado sustained disabling damages while the bus had slight damages.

The bus passengers ranged in age from 10 to 17.
