2,500 free Thanksgiving meals given out in Tamaqua

A Tamaqua business prepared and gave away approximately 2,500 turkey dinners with all the fixings.

Tuesday’s distribution marked the second time that La Dolce Casa/DiMaggio’s provided free meals to the community in time for Thanksgiving.

A long line assembled outside the West Broad Street restaurant, where employees packaged meals from the restaurant’s food truck.

To help folks stay warm as sleet fell and winds whipped, employees served cups of steamy hot chocolate - complete with whipped cream.

Restaurant owner Alfonso “Alfie” Picone said the business loves to do whatever it can for the community, and held the distribution to show thanks for the community’s continued support.

Koch’s Turkey Farm in the Lewistown Valley donated turkeys. Distributors including Sysco, Schiff’s, Russo Foods and PFG also assisted.
