Tree decorating Saturday in Summit Hill
The Summit Hill Recreation Commission hopes the Christmas spirit spreads to borough residents.
Kathy Gieniec, chairman of the commission, said residents are invited to help decorate the borough Christmas tree in Ludlow Park at 11 a.m. Saturday.
“We would like to have volunteers help us decorate,” she said, adding that anyone wanting to help with the tree should merely show up at 11 a.m.
The official tree lighting occurs during the Christmas on the Hill program, which has something special this year.
Christmas on the Hill will be on Sunday, Dec. 3, at the Gazebo in the park.
Being offered this year will be trolley rides through town. The rides will be free and are being sponsored by the Summit Hill American Legion Post, Sons of the American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary.
The police department will be handing out stuffed animals to children, thanks to sponsorship by Tom Tirpak of Northeast Chemical, Lansford.
Free cookies and hot chocolate also will be available.
There will also be a bake sale.
Gieniec said the highlight, of course, will be the arrival of Santa Claus on a firetruck at approximately 7 p.m.
She said Santa will be available for pictures and have gift bags for the children.
Gieniec said the Recreation Commission has several other events planned over the next few weeks. They are:
• Sunday, Nov. 18 - Cup cake decorating at 2 p.m. Those participating will be making cupcake turkeys. For more information or to register, private message the Recreation Commission on Facebook or contact Kira Steber, Summit Hill secretary/treasurer, during normal business hours. There is a $25 per person fee. Participants should bring a can of vanilla icing, a spatula, scissors and a container for finished cupcakes.
• Friday, Dec. 15 - Paint and Snack. For children of all ages as well as adults, with a fee of $25 per person. Participants will paint a reindeer. To register, private message the Summit Hill Recreation Commission on Facebook or contact Steber.
