Lansford station open Sunday

The former Lehigh and New England passenger and freight station in Lansford will be open to the public from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday.

The public is invited to view historical artifacts related to the train station and railroad, which will be on display during the open house.

The Lehigh and New England rail line was owned by Lehigh Coal and Navigation Co., which headquartered in the borough. The rail line was abandoned in 1961.

The borough completed the purchase of the station from the Ken and Jeanie Hill, who operated a machine shop in the building along Dock Street for more than a half century.
