Lehighton wins Tri-County Youth Football League championship
The Lehighton fifth and sixth grade football team captured the Tri-County Youth Football Championship on Sunday at Hazleton. The team finished with an overall record of 10-1 on the season. They entered the eight-team tournament as the No. 5 seed. The team then upset three higher-seeded teams to capture the championship. In the quarterfinals, Lehighton defeated the No. 4 seed Schuylkill Haven Hurricanes, 48-1. In the semifinals, Lehighton defeated the No. 1 seed and undefeated Shamokin Indians, 42-6. Lehighton captured its perfect tournament run with a victory over No. 2 seed Tamaqua, 14-8, in the title game.
