Work to repair a faulty furnace inside borough hall will cost Walnutport nearly $4,000.

Borough council on Thursday unanimously agreed to have LVR reline the furnace at a cost of $3,800.

Borough public works director Mike Wentz told council there’s been an issue with the furnace that needs to be addressed immediately.

Wentz said the age of the furnace, coupled with the fact there’s brick inside, and the brick’s deteriorating, causing whole back wall behind the furnace is crumbling and falling in.

“We can let it go; the problem is, it’s only going to get worse,” Wentz said. “We’re actually losing heat.”

Wentz recommended that council take action now.

“It’s gotten worse,” he said. “It’s really got to get done.”
