Two cars stolen in Tamaqua, police report

Tamaqua police reported that two vehicles were stolen from the borough within a week. As a result, police are reminding people to lock their vehicles and not keep their keys inside.

Officers said one of the vehicles was involved in a hit-and-run crash, and the other was found in Summit Hill.

Police said the owner of one of the stolen vehicles said he parked his car on the 400 block of Mountain Avenue around 2:30 p.m. Nov. 3. Three hours later, the car was gone.

The victim said he left his keys in the cup holder. The vehicle was recovered the next day in Summit Hill, police said.

The other vehicle, police said, was involved in a hit-and-run on the 600 block of Washington Street on Oct. 25. Police said the individuals in the car ran away after the incident.

Police identified the vehicle through surveillance camera footage. Officers contacted the owner, who said he had parked his car at a store parking lot because of the recent Halloween parade and street sweeping schedule. He did not know who took his car.
