The time change is upon us
There aren’t all too many things in life that I truly loathe.
Shoveling heavy amounts of snowfall qualifies.
Icy road conditions also ranks right up there.
But, even worse than all of that is what is upon us.
As of 2 a.m. Sunday, daylight saving time ends.
That means a change back to Standard Time.
Sure, we all gain an extra hour of sleep, but that only goes so far.
I’d gladly trade that in for longer hours of daylight in an instant.
For starters, it gets dark earlier in the winter.
That means less time spent outdoors.
Not to mention less vitamin D.
It can also lead to Seasonal Affective Disorder for some.
As I navigated the web in search of any silver lining, I came across a potential ray of hope.
The website www.almanac.com offers five tips to help our bodies adjust to the time change.
I listed them below, followed by a brief anecdote.
• Go to bed and get up at the same time. I can relate to this one, as I’m fairly consistent with my approach.
• Practice good habits before bedtime. Not so much here, as the unconventional hours this occupation requires makes it nearly impossible.
• Keep your dinnertime consistent. Check on this one for sure, as I’m like clockwork here.
• Get more light. No worries here, since I try to soak in as many rays of sunshine as possible when time permits.
• Take a short cat nap. Not something that I do, though I can see where it could be beneficial.
That said, be sure to turn back your clocks by an hour.
Those of you who can’t wait to Spring Forward, be patient.
Daylight Saving Time begins at 3 a.m. March 10.
It’s at that point when I’ll be certain to have an extra bounce to my step.
And an extra hour of daylight to hopefully bask in all its glory.
