State police at Fern Ridge
State police at the Fern Ridge barracks reported on the following incidents:
• The mother of two students – ages 5 and 8, from Blakeslee – who attend the Penn Kidder Elementary School, Kidder Township, is facing charges of simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, endangering the welfare of children, strangulation and harassment after police were called there at 10:12 a.m. Oct. 10.
Police said they responded to the school to investigate a Childline report, and the investigation showed the woman was physically abusing her children, causing significant visible injury.
• Tyler Guarrasi, 21, of Kunkletown, was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol after police were called to a one-vehicle crash at 7:29 p.m. Sept. 27 in the area of 830 Smith Hill Road in Chestnuthill Township.
Police said he was driving a 2009 Subaru. When police arrived, they said they detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle. They said Guarrasi was unable to perform standardized field sobriety tests due to injuries he sustained in the crash. They said he also made several statements about his alcohol consumption prior to the crash.
• Police said the mother of a 15-year-old Stroudsburg girl called them to report her daughter was raped in an incident at midnight Oct. 1 at a residence on High Point Drive, Jackson Township.
Police said the assailant is a boy who the girl met through scouting at her grandmother’s residence. She was transported to the St. Luke’s Hospital, Bartonsville, where she was assessed and a rape kit was administered.
• Police are investigating a burglary that was reported at 5:18 p.m. Oct. 22. It happened at an unoccupied condemned residence on Shakespeake Circle, Penn Forest Township, through an unlocked door. The burglars stole a green ATV from the garage of the residence and fled the area in a black Dodge Dakota and a gray Nissan Altima.
• Zackary Miller, 30, of Brodheadsville, was arrested for carrying a concealed firearm after police were called to the Shop Rite store, 107 Kinsley Drive, Chestnuthill Township, at 3:17 p.m. Oct. 14.
Police said they were called there for an unwanted employee and upon taking him into custody located a handgun in his waistband. Police said it was determined he did not have a permit to carry a weapon. He was transported to the barracks and later committed to the Monroe County Correctional Facility.
• Police said a black Calvin Klein handbag was found at 2:18 p.m. Oct. 3 in the area of State and Sugar Hollow roads in Chestnuthill Township.
They said the owner of the handbag can claim it at their barracks, 127 Parkside Ave., Blakeslee, or by calling 570-646-2271.
• A 57-year-old Kunkletown woman was cited with a Dog Law violation after police were called at 5:01 p.m. Oct. 2 to a property in Chestnuthill Township. Police said it was determined she allowed her dog to run without a leash into and around the complainant’s property.
• A 33-year-old Brodheadsville man was charged with harassment by physical contact after police were called to a domestic incident at 11:20 p.m. Oct. 21 at a property on Frantz Road in Chestnuthill Township.
The victim is a 31-year-old woman from Brodheadsville who told police he grabbed her by the arms in an attempt to push her. She said he struck her on the left side of her face with an open hand.
• A Stroudsburg man, 29, and woman, 28, are the victims of a theft from a vehicle incident that police responded to at 9:11 a.m. Oct. 24 at a property on Rainbow Way in Jackson Township.
Police said they were told someone entered the victims’ 2019 Dodge Ram truck and removed credit/debit cards and then attempted to use them through CashApp but was denied by the victims’ bank.
• A 48-year-old Effort woman was charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance after police made a traffic stop at 1:08 a.m. Oct. 8 at the intersection of Route 115 and the Effort Neola Road in Chestnuthill Township. Police said she was driving a 2006 Chevrolet that they stopped because it had an expired inspection sticker on it.
• A 22-year-old man from Effort is facing charges relating to neglect of a care-dependent person.
Police said they were called at 4:52 p.m. Oct. 24 to check on the welfare of a woman at a property on Shane Drive, Chestnuthill Township, where an 82-year-old woman from Effort was reported to be the victim. Police said the Monroe County Area on Aging was contacted about the incident.
