One killed in turnpike crash in Kidder Twp.

One person died Friday in a crash on the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Kidder Township that shut down the northbound lanes around noon near mile marker 89.

The site is between the Route 903 slip ramp and the Pocono exit.

Officials reported that a tri-axle dump truck ran into a vehicle that was disabled in a construction zone.

State police are investigating.

The crash caused heavy traffic delays on the turnpike and other areas.

Maintenance crews turned motorists around, having them travel south in the northbound lanes and exit at the ramp to Route 903.

“Do not u-turn until you are directed by a turnpike employee or other emergency personnel,” turnpike officials posted on social media. “If you are not u-turned (commercial vehicles & passenger vehicles), you may be directed off at a temporary construction gate.”

The Penn Forest Township Volunteer Fire Co. No. 2 also advised motorists to expect delays.

“There is heavy traffic on the northbound lane of Route 903 from the PA Turnpike until Route 115,” it posted on social media Friday afternoon.

By 4:30 p.m., the detour was lifted.

No other details were released.
