Letter to the Editor: Supports Lux for Carbon Co. controller

Sam Lux has my support in the upcoming election on Nov. 7. The controller for Carbon County is a position where the skills and background are needed to make sure our tax dollars are being used appropriately. I have spoken with Sam on several occasions, and in reviewing his background, I am confident he is the right choice for the position.

The biggest reason why I see him as the best candidate is his municipal finance experience. Without being too technical, government accounting is very different from accounting in the private sector. Governments have a legal responsibility to be transparent and have specific rules about how our tax dollars can be spent. Having a controller, like Sam, that understand these rules about how our tax dollars should be appropriated, will help our county government be more efficient and effective. Most importantly, he will make sure our tax dollars are being used responsibly.

The reason I feel this way is because of my experience as serving as Clerk of Courts and working with Bob Crampsie, our then controller, in order to get clarification on the budget process. While on the administrative level, my eyes were opened as to how diligently these processes are completed. Government has multiple moving parts with various offices. It is of the utmost importance to keep the accounting correct.

I ask you to join me on Nov. 7 in voting for Sam Lux, qualified and dedicated, for Carbon County controller.
