Lehighton man charged in fatal crash faces more charges

A Lehighton man charged in a fatal two-car crash last month in Kidder Township, in which a Luzerne County man died, faces additional charges following a crash Wednesday in Franklin Township.

Franklin Township police said the crash was reported at 5:49 p.m. on Route 248 approaching the intersection of Route 209.

Michael Hotton, 60, was arraigned on charges of driving under the influence, accidents involving death or personal injury while not properly licensed, and driving while operating privilege is suspended or revoked (DUI).

Hotton was sent to the Carbon County Correctional Facility after being unable to post $100,000 bail.

Police said that Hotton’s Nissan Sentra struck the rear of a Ford F250, with the Sentra sustaining disabling damage.

An occupant of the Ford F250 was injured and transported for medical treatment.

Hotton refused to submit to chemical testing, police said, and a search warrant was obtained to draw blood from Hotton.
