It’s the little things that turn into big things.
On Wednesday, Nesquehoning Councilwoman Lois Kuba announced that the borough is beginning a new campaign to help organizations.
Two boxes have been set up in the borough office and the town is accepting donations that will be given to the Carbon County Animal Shelter and Carbon County Friends of Animals.
Kuba said that any resident who would like to help the dogs or cats can drop off an item or monetary donation during business hours between now and Nov. 20.
Some items being collected for the cat shelter include cleaning supplies, paper/bedding items, cat litter, toys, trash bags, stationary and more.
Some items for the dog shelter include treats, Pedigree canned dog food and Purina Moist and Meaty, cleaning supplies and more.
Complete lists of needed items are located on the bins in the borough office.
Once the collection is done, the items will be presented to the two shelters.
On Nov. 21, the bins will turn into another collection, Kuba said.
This collection will be for the borough food pantry and nonperishable food items and personal hygiene products will be accepted. That collection will take place through mid-December.
In other fundraising matters, Kuba also announced that the recent boot drive to help the three fire companies in the borough was a success, raising approximately $6,000, which was split between the departments.
She said that there was a lot of generosity, pointing out that $1 dollar bills really add up. Approximately 3,000 $1 dollar bills were collected, in addition to coins, $5s and even a $50 dollar bill.
“It was really amazing,” she said.
Another boot drive may be planned for the spring.
