Eldred Township supervisors

Eldred Township supervisors discussed the following business this month:

• The fire department applied for a state Fire Company and Emergency Medical Services Grant to cover the cost of additional turnout gear, a thermal camera at about $5,000, and additional equipment needed for the fire trucks. They are also seeking a Federal Emergency Management Agency Assistance to Firefighters Grant to apply for a gear washer and dryer to clean out contaminates at the scene of a fire that can cause cancer. They washer and dryer would cost be about $13,000.

• Supervisor Scott Clark was selected to be the township’s representative to the Monroe County and Townships Organization. Blaine Silfies will be the alternate.

• The thrift shop in the Eldred Township Community Center is getting a new cash register, which will be able to process credit card purchases.

• The Parks and Recreation committee was granted a donation of $50 from the township to purchase miscellaneous decorations for the Smale House, which houses items for the Historical Society.

• The Eldred Township Historical Society bingo was a success. Work on the porch of the Smale House continues. The building now has an entrance in the back that is Americans with Disabilities Act compliant.

• The Eldred Township Fire Department fire chief reported there were three calls in September, and 55 calls total this year. They plan to give out candy on Halloween and are now selling Turkey Tickets. They have 30 turkeys as prizes that will be given out a week before Thanksgiving. The fire department also plans to sell food on Election Day as people come to the firehouse to vote on Nov. 7.
