Crusaders roll past Olympians

EASTON - Notre Dame of Green Pond continued a successful season with an 11-0 victory over Jim Thorpe in a District 11 Class 2A boys soccer quarterfinal on Wednesday.

“Notre Dame is a good team. They’re third in the district for a reason,” Jim Thorpe boys soccer head coach Mike Dudak said. “It is what it is. I like that our boys fought right to the end. That’s impressive. We go to Colonial League next year, and we want to be able to compete with these teams.”

“Attrition was definitely a thing for us. We’re not extremely deep, and we are coming off a double-overtime game with Lehighton a couple of days ago which made it tough.”

Cameron Bohn scored a game-high five goals for Notre Dame as Colin Boyle, Paul Hartman and Isaiah Miles each scored two goals apiece.

“We started off the season slow and picked up speed after our first four games,” said Notre Dame coach Trevor Koski. “We went on a 13-game winning streak up until the Colonial League final where we lost to Northwestern. Jim Thorpe is a good team, but I think having playoff games against Moravian and Northwestern really primed us well to be playing good soccer at the right time of the season.

“We just have to continue to play the game like we have the last few weeks.”

Jim Thorpe will be a part of the Colonial League next season, transitioning over from the Schuylkill League.

“For us, we’re going to see a lot more teams,” Dudak said. “We play a lot of Schuylkill League teams twice, where as in Colonial League, it’s one time. You’ll play everybody once, so you’ll see every team that’s in the league, which helps. We’re going to see how it all pans out.

“The nice part is they have a deeper playoff system, so there’s a good chance of making playoffs over in that league.”

SCHUYLKILL SUCCESS ... “Since I’ve been here, we’ve been successful in Schuylkill League,” Dudak said. “We’ve never had a losing record in the league. Colonial League has some very good teams, better teams. There’s a couple of state champions over there, and you’re going to have to play them.”

BOHN’S BIG DAY ... Bohn had a big day on the field with five goals for Notre Dame, and Koski spoke highly of his leading scorer. “He’s been great this season, and anytime you have your striker scoring the most goals, that’s a succesful day as a team,” Koski said. “I was glad he was able to produce for us today.”

THE END ... Jim Thorpe concludes another successful season with a 14-8 record. After starting the season 3-4, the Olympians closed with a 9-2 mark in their final 11 games of the regular season to earn a spot in the league playoffs, where they advanced to the semifinals.
