The Pleasant Valley School District came to an agreement with the support staff union over payment to four paraprofessionals.
The Pleasant Valley Educational Support Professionals’ Association filed a grievance with the school district on Sept. 15 of behalf of Eileen Arnold, Robin DeVivo, Maria Sarwar and Margaret O’Leary.
The union alleged that the school district did not pay the four paraprofessionals the stipend they were owed for working in the classrooms for Life Skills, Emotional Support, Autistic Support and/or Multiple Disabilities. The union wanted the school district to pay the $500 annual stipend to each of the paraprofessionals for the work they did.
A memorandum of understanding was approved by the school board at their meeting on Thursday night showing that the union and the school district came to an agreement.
As stated in the memorandum, the school district agreed to pay each of the paraprofessionals the $500 owed to them for working in those classrooms. The union agreed to withdraw the grievance. Both parties agree that the memorandum resolves all of the issues related to the paraprofessionals’ stipend and any other subsequent disputes.
Because of the dispute, the language in the Collective Bargaining Agreement will be changed.
