Transparency is a must for building trust

In a society increasingly fueled by rapid-fire information, both accurate and not, the importance of clear communication and transparency from our elected officials is paramount. Over the past few months, our local community has been buzzing with whispers and rumors regarding the potential abolition of our police department. These rumors have understandably sparked concern among residents, leading to a heightened sense of anticipation at recent township meetings.

At the latest gathering, our township supervisors addressed the matter, urging the community to help quash these rumors and assuring us of their pro-police stance. Such clarity is indeed appreciated, as it fosters trust between officials and the community they serve.

However, trust is a fragile entity. It’s built on consistent actions that align with words. In a perplexing turn of events, by the close of the very same meeting, a motion was made to abolish the administrative position within the police department. This action, juxtaposed against their earlier assurances, has left many of us feeling bewildered.

It is not the specific decision that causes concern, but rather the seeming incongruence between words spoken and actions taken. If there are valid reasons for this decision, it’s crucial that they be communicated clearly to the public to avoid further confusion and mistrust.

Our community thrives on collaboration and understanding. I urge our township supervisors to prioritize transparent communication, ensuring that their actions consistently align with their words. By doing so, they can foster an environment of trust and unity, where rumors find no fertile ground to grow.

Sincerely,

Jackie Selitto
