The Northern Lehigh School District Marching Band will host the Tournament of Bands Region 2 Championships Saturday at Bulldog Stadium. The rain date is Sunday.

The competition begins at 6:30 p.m. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Admission is $10.

Bands who will compete in this year’s event include Panther Valley High School, Mahanoy Area, Williams Valley, North Schuylkill High School, Lake Lehman, and Wyoming Area High School,

Northern Lehigh Band Director David Carroll said he’s excited that the district has the opportunity to present the event.

“The Region Championships are the qualifier for bands to advance to the Tournament of Bands Atlantic Coast Championship at Hershey Park Stadium, NL has hosted the Region 2 Championships for the last three years and we have been glad to be the host site for the region during that time.”

The Tournament of Bands encompasses member bands from Pennsylvania, Ohio, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, West Virginia, Virginia, New York and North Carolina. The nine states are divided into regional subdivisions called Regions.

Region 2 is the greater Lehigh Valley Region that extends west to Reading and north into the Poconos.

Each team competes against bands of about the same size or “group.” The school’s student population is not a factor in determining a band’s group size.
