The position of controller is a critical but often misunderstood function of our county government. In short, the controller is in charge of auditing Carbon County’s nearly $60 million dollar budget (2023), overseeing the nearly $90 million in retirement assets, and serving on the salary and prison boards.
There is a reason that the controller is the first elected official mentioned in the Pennsylvania County Code after the commissioners. It is a massive responsibility where the correct candidate can prevent bloated budgets and wasteful spending of our tax dollars.
As a member of our community, and as a candidate for controller, I think it is immensely important to inform the public about what is on the line in this upcoming election for Carbon County. What could the public possibly lose from being more informed?
I am happy to discuss anywhere, anyhow, and at any length my ideas, plans, and qualifications for the Controller’s office of Carbon County. Ideally the debate planned by the Lehighton 9/12 project, and set to air on Blue Ridge TV13 on Oct. 30 could be expanded to include a controller’s debate. If this is not possible, I would be happy to schedule a separate Controller’s debate at a different time and location.
