Kunkletown woman sentenced in child’s death

Lehigh County District Attorney Jim Martin announced the sentencing of a Kunkletown woman in the homicide of an Allentown child.

Delilah Reader, 39, pleaded no contest to murder of the third degree on Aug. 15.

On Wednesday she was sentenced to 8 to 16 years in state prison by Judge Robert L. Steinberg.

On Dec. 6, 2007, in Allentown, Reader was the sole caregiver of Angelina Tomas, who was 10 months old at the time. On that morning, Reader caused a traumatic brain injury to the victim.

The brain injury caused significant developmental delays, cognitive and learning impairments, physical disabilities and a seizure disorder – the latter of which caused Tomas’ death in 2015.

Reader, of Streamside Street, Kunkletown, Monroe County, was charged after a grand jury heard testimony from witnesses presented by Senior Deputy District Attorney Anna-Kristie Morffi Marks and Deputy District Attorney Christine F. Murphy and reviewed exhibits before handing up its presentment.
