52nd Annual Switchback Scamper is Sunday

The 52nd annual Switchback Scamper will take place on Sunday, Oct. 22 beginning at 2 p.m. in Summit Hill.

Registration can also be done online prior to Sunday by going to https://runsignup.com/Race/PA/JimThorpe/SwitchbackScamper.

The race begins near St. Joseph’s Church, located on Ludlow Street in Summit Hill. Runners will cross over Route 902 to the Switchback Trail, before proceeding to Mauch Chunk Lake Park for the finish.

The event features a 10K run and a 5K walk, with awards given in various age groups for runners and walkers.

This run is a long-standing tradition in Carbon County, with participants able to enjoy the beauty of the area as they run on the historic Switchback Trail.

For those heading to Mauch Chunk on Sunday for the registration, they can avoid traffic in downtown Jim Thorpe by using alternate routes. From Lehighton or points south and east, take Route 443 west to 902, and then make a right onto Lentz Trail. The entrance to Mauch Chunk Lake will on the right. From Tamaqua and points west, take 902 through Lansford and Summit Hill, turn left onto Lentz Trail and follow to Mauch Chunk Lake Park, entrance on the right.
