Carbon Transit to map out changes in Nov. meeting
Carbon County’s transportation system is holding a meeting next month to discuss upcoming changes that will affect riders in 2024.
The meeting, which will be held in both in-person and virtually, will take place at 10 a.m. Nov. 13. In-person attendance will be at 44 Susquehanna St., Jim Thorpe.
According to a release from Carbon Transit, the service changes involve the realignment of the transit’s fixed bus routes.
“After reviewing ridership logistics and past community input, we will implement these changes beginning January 2024,” the company states.
The proposed changes include:
• Routes 701 and 702 no longer serving Bertsch and Ridge streets in Lansford;
• Stops will revert to Patterson Street, but will continue to serve the Lansford Midrise and Boyer’s Food Market on every trip;
• Alignment adjustments in Lehighton on 9th Street and Lehigh River;
• Buses will travel along Bridge Street in both directions;
• Stops removed from Gnaden Huetten and Lowe’s and added at ALDI and Lehigh Valley Hospital – Carbon;
• There will no longer be Flag Stops allowed (waving buses down). All boarding on Carbon Transit will occur at official stops only;
• New signage will be added to all official stops;
• Realtime Tracking is now live in Carbon County, which include MyStop, Transit App, Google Maps, and Token Transit LANTA Fares accepted on CT Bus & CT Flex.
In addition, participants can provide public input on the proposed changes and ask questions to transit officials.
A public meeting survey is also available for those who cannot make the meeting at https://carbontransit.com/november-2023-public-meeting; or by emailing surveycomments@lantabus.com; calling 888-253-8333; or texting “Fares” to 484-267-1739.
“Our goal for the public meeting is to gather community input on preferred bus stop locations, time preferences and mobile ticketing,” the company states.
Carbon Transit, which is operated through LANTA, serves Carbon County through shared ride buses and fixed and flex routes.
