2 reappointed to MCTA board of directors
The Monroe County commissioners reappointed two people to the Monroe County Transit Authority’s board of directors and recognized one of them for several decades of service.
Wayne Mazur and JoAnn Baratta were reappointed to the board at the commissioners’ meeting on Oct. 4. Mazur’s term will end Sept. 6, 2028, and Baratta’s term on Dec. 31, 2028.
Mazur joined the board in the 1980s, according to Commissioner John Moyer.
“He was one of the original board members,” Moyer said. “Going on 40 years that he has served.”
Commissioner Sharon Laverdure thanked all of the board members for their service.
Also recognized at the meeting for his accomplishments was Patrick Casey Weiss, who is pursuing his Eagle Scout award.
Other business
The commissioners passed Amendment Number 6 with KRB Consulting Services LLC to continue consulting the county about water and sewer projects at the ongoing rate of $150 per hour for 2024.
They also accepted proposals from Matheson Transfer Co., which include $13,470 to move the court staff to the new building and the old furniture to the warehouse; as well as $1,640 to pack the artwork from Courtroom 1.
The commissioners also approved the following:
• A request from GO Collaborative to use Courthouse Square from 1 to 7 p.m. on Oct. 29 for the annual Spooky Stroudsburg event;
• Monroe County Demolition Program - demolition reimbursement request from the Monroe County Land Bank for $20,025.79 for the 251 Forest Lane, Jackson Township demolition project;
• Vouchers payable - $998,743.85 for the week ending Sept. 22;
• Monroe County Area Agency on Aging - entered into contracts and agreements with the Jewish Resource of the Poconos for $5 per kosher meal; Gretchen Weitzmann, Esq. at $150 per hour for legal services; Monroe County Meals on Wheels for delivery of congregate meals to the senior centers; extended contacts to Traditional Home Care LLC to June 30, 2024 for $19 per hour; Connect America.com LLC to June 30, 2024 - at $20, $25 and $30 per month; and Home Star Care Inc. doing business as Brightstar Care to June 30, 2024 at $24 per hour.
• Monroe County Children and Youth Services - service agreements from July 1, 2023 to June 30, 2024 with Northampton County Juvenile Justice Center for $880,000; Loftus-Vergari & Associates Inc. for $30,000; Bethany Christian Services Inc. for $93,000; the Blair Foundation of Pennsylvania for $17,000; and Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Services Inc. for $30,000;
• Authorizing the chief clerk to advertise a Request for Proposals for a new chiller at the Correctional Facility, and notice of the 2024 county bids for goods and services;
• A contract service provider agreement with Bradley Warren Weidenbaum to act as a special public defender due to potential conflicts in the Public Defender’s Office;
• Monroe County Affordable Housing Board - amended bylaws as presented.
