The A&P store on Fourth Street in Jim Thorpe will close its doors at 6 p.m. today.

The closing was announced this week by officials of the Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company, in leaflets to customers.

Information on the leaflets noted the company is compelled to close the store because methods of retailing have undergone many changes.

The store has been located on Fourth Street for the past 16 years. Leonard Swartz of Penn Forest Township, store manager, will retire and other employees will be relocated.
